Here’s our list of the best road bikes 2020. And we checked every week and our purchasing tip telling you what to look for in a drop-down bar bike.
Guides for Buyers
It’s a big decision to choose the right road bike for you. The rates and options available span a wide variety. They all have two wheels and drop bars in common. In addition, if you want to purchase a new road bike, there are many things to think about.
Here at Cycling Weekly, we have checked hundreds of road bikes and here is our top tip for selecting and choosing the best road bikes at different prices. There is a ‘Buy Now’ or ‘Best Price’ link with each product. If you click on the button, the retailer can send us a small amount of money when you buy the item. This does not change the price you are paying.
What are you going to do on your road bike?
What you intend to do is make a crucial decision when choosing the right motorcycle for you. Do you want to go fast or race or do you want to ride more easily on a bike?
With your head and shoulders lower than the handlebars, a total race bike places you in a bent riding posture. It’s perfect for fast riding and reduces your front profile to lower your wind resistance, but it can be awkward particularly for beginners.
On the other hand, motorbikes marked as “endurance” or “sporty,” with bars higher and lower to the saddle, are built for a higher riding position. This makes longer trips more comfortable, but can make you a little slower.
A light bike makes it easier to climb.
When you drive on hilly highways, it’s a lightweight bike that you appreciate, while aerodynamics are more critical if you plan to ride quickly on flatter terrain. If you’re looking for a ride, it’s easier to handle a road bike than a compact endurance machine.
More and more motorcycles will take you off the tarmac and allow you to ride comfortably on the lane. You will get a gravel bike with big tires and lower gears. But many endurance road bikes now also have certain features that allow you to follow a wider range of routes.
How much do you want to spend on a motorcycle?
You will have to see how much you want to spend on a motorcycle. This is not just the initial expense, but also the cost to repair broken or damaged components, the cost of repairing your bike and improvements. There is a significant price gap between lower mechanical components and top of the electronic gear range.
New rollers are common, but you can also find that you need a new saddle or want to change bars or other components.
Specialized Roubaix Sport
The Roubaix Sport was built to excel on long journeys through a rugged country in a sweet position between performance and value.
The lightweight frame was made of our carbon fiber Reality 9r. Its stiffness levels are also off the charts, and compared to the last SL4 version, it is a whole new, quicker and more powerful geometry that you can experience. However, we managed to keep the same fit, feel and place through some engineering magic that we all loved from the SL4 and maintained consistent across the size range due to our Rider-First EngineeredTM design.
You probably think, “Get on the suspension thing up front,” of course. It’s called Future Shock, and basically a 20 mm piston in the head tube. In collaboration with McLaren Applied Technologies, we have developed this technology, resulting in a number of dramatic performance changes in the department of vertical enforcement in particular.
Without a lecture in physics, we found that concentrating on vertical compliance instead of bifurcation splay meant that in one case we could enhance smoothness, speed and comfort. And the new Roubaix provides everything from all the bikes that we have reviewed with our Rolling Performance Model.
Finally, we would like to demonstrate Roubaix Sport with Shimano 105 11-speed mechanical shifting, the hassle-free mechanical disk brake Tektro Spyre and Axis Sport wheels that were locked with our Tire Turbo Pro 28 mm.
With its Rider-First EngineeredTM architecture, each frame size has the same legendary reactivity and smooth driving efficiency as a Roubaix would expect. The FACT 9r frameset features our high-end carbon range with ideal light overall weight and targeted toughness mixing, while an innovative degree of comfort and control is offered by the all-new Future Shock suspension system at the cockpit.
A Roubaix Disc fork is made from our Reality carbon fiber with high rigidity, strength and reactivity, while only the above-mentioned thruaxle system can be reinforced.
Shimano 105 gives you shifts that are clean, consistent and reliable. The device is known for its longevity, which fits with the batting … if the shifters had eyelashes, i.e.
Ribble Endurace AL Disc
This latest version of Ribble’s durability model shows you what about 1,000 quid if you want disc brakes — a beautifully finished frame and tapered, fully-carbon fork, all features aerogeneration, thru axles, internal cable routing, mudguard fittings, large tyre clearance and hydraulic disk brakes.
It also features “saturation profiles designed to improve the ride comfort for vertical compliance and vibration absorption.”
The frameset is what you’d imagine now. Half-compact geometry with lowered seats and a flat aerofoil down tube while the fork is aero-profiled. The 10-speed Tiagra group is down from Shimano 105, but the Ribble ‘s hydraulic disk brakes have another string to its bow.
Ribble’s Durability Disc Model Al (£899/$963/$1479) comes with cable brakes, but I would be busting the hydraulic budget.
The direct-sell model of Ribble also makes it possible to choose some of the best wheels you can find for this price — the rugged yet not-light Aksiums by Mavic with 28 mm Continental Ultra Sport reels.
Hydraulic disk brake Shimano
Disk brakes also do not constitute a no-no for certain highways, but it’s difficult to understand why. All right, the rotors don’t add the esthetics of a road bike, but … the braking! Smooth, compact and quick to modulate the light, or, most importantly, the rain.
Braking is almost automatic and in a driving downstream. And although the mechanical disks of the Pinnacle have some benefits, the hydraulic brakes of Ribble are unrivaled and the frame and the belt axles allow the bike to take advantage of them.
The principal negative is a small (but noticeable) bulb below the lever caps where the hydraulic sleeves are raised.
I could stop it by shifting the angle of my hands fractionally forward, and depending on your riding position and the size of your hands there might be no problem.
That said, I also noticed the broad hood bodies around them, even with its slightly swept-back row, a little stretching. However, switching to a stem that is one centimeter or two shorter would resolve this.
The geometry of the Ribble is ideal for speed
The Ribble ‘s frame geometry is at the end of Robert Smith’s durability continuum
AL Disk Trip Experience Ribble Endurance3
The ride is accurate, fluid and regulated. Despite its 10 kg plus weight, the bike goes well and the 34 sur32 gear is very welcome.
Downhill, it’s a blast, with the hydraulic brakes helping you break that fraction of a second later, safe in your knowledge.
The bar sweep makes it a smooth ride on the top, perfect for long-distance riding, and when you go down in the drops to sprint hard, the lightweight frame provides good balance between stiffness and comfort.
The geometry is at the tougher end of the durability continuum with a much shorter head-tube and wheelbase.
Ribble ‘s durability may not be essential to mobility, but it is perfect for fast or long-distance commuting, agility, durability riding and mudguards all year round training.
This bike certainly looks like the part and it’s highly recommended if you’re glad to buy online.

Boardman SLR 8.8 Disc
Bicycles has recently launched their 2021 range of items including improvements to their SLR endurance bike and the unveiling of the latest ADV gravel bike.
Boardman Bikes has recently been especially quiet. This is because it is preparing to launch its 2021 portfolio. Furthermore, it did not have many bikes to market, after the Covid-19 outbreak sent bicycle sales to the roof.
As its name suggests, the new 2021 alloy SLR 8.8 Disc replaces the rim brakes for the previous version for mechanical disk brakes Tektro MD-C511. There is a 10-speed party Shimano Tiagra, and the bike runs on 28 mm Vittoria Rubino pneumatics.
Boardman says the package, which is three-buttal aluminum alloy with secret welds, has been redesigned. For mudguards and a rack there are mounting points. The C7 carbon fork is combined with pricer SLR models.

Vitus ZX1 CRS Road Bike
The ZX-1 Vitus. Inspired by Aero, for optimum speed and performance.
Innovation is part of who we are, and when it was first launched in 1991, the original ZX-1 was one of the first monocoque carbon fiber bikes. It took the storm scene with advanced production methods that allowed designers to push aerodynamic boundaries and build a truly unique bike.
Today, the ZX-1 is still a powerful road bike. The Vitus designers have developed aerodynamics without compromises using Kamm Tail profiles and an integrated fork and seat. An asymmetric BB386EVO BB is used to optimize drive and lateral rigidity overall. Vitus has achieved a balanced power transfer on the drive and the non-drive side of the bike when pedaling with several carbon-fiber lay-ups.
The UCI Continental Pro Cycling team Vitus Pro Cycling p / b Brother UK, which were heavily breakaway during the 2019 Tour de Yorkshire, has been running on the permitted frameset, and is stage winner of the UK ‘s Tour Series criteria.
The high performance Shimano Ultegra R8000 11 speed mechanical group and Ultegra hydraulic flat mount disk brakes are part of the ZX-1 CRS System. There is no doubt why Shimano is the best-selling success category.
Prime Carbon Black Edition 50 tubeless ready-wheels feature a 50 mm deep aero rim section, which is certified by UCI Certified. Combined with a broader profile, this provides a more natural contour between the pneumatic and the surface interface.
The cockpit uses Prime ‘s latest Primavera aluminum aero handlebars, inspired by the extremely famous carbon edition of Vitus Pro Cycling. The bars have the same aggressive aerodynamic design with a big, flat, aero-top section and inner cable routing. The 3D forged and CNC, Prime Doyenne aero stem, performance focused, adds a sleek look and an integrated aero top hat. Tubeless 25c tires RaceGuard maximizes aero benefits and comfort.
