Andrea Bromber is into Triathlons and wants to get a new, faster bike, but not a Tri specific bike. She wants a normal road bike that she can fit aero bars. Here are our suggestions for a top road bike.
Question:
I have started doing triathlons this summer and would like to get a fast road bike rather than a triathlon bike. What do you recommend as one of the faster bikes that I can add aero bars too?
Hi Andrea,
You didn’t say if you want a woman’s specific bike or how much you are willing to pay? There are many good fast bikes; if you buy the best equipment available then you can’t go wrong.
Trek
Looking at all the woman’s specific bikes you would struggle to get anything better than the Trek Madone Silque SL, Shimano Ultegra equipment and further great bits and pieces, a top bike with the best of equipment. You may want to change the wheels for certain races and also depending on your pedaling style and power you might want larger gearing on the chainset instead of the compact 50/34 you might want 52 or 53 with an inner 39 chainring.

Cannondale Synapse Carbon Women’s Ultegra Di2
The best from Cannondale has to be the Synapse. Carbon frame with women’s geometry, Shimano Ultegra Di2 again with Fulcrum Racing 5 wheels and Cannondale HollowGram 50/34 Carbon cranks with compact chainrings. Cannondale C2 Women’s Compact Wing bars and stem set up and the comfortable Fi’zi:k Vestra saddle.
Specialized Ruby Pro Disc
The S-Works Ruby is a full carbon monocoque frame with Zertz inserts. S-Works bits and chainset and Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 equipment and wheels. Another very good woman’s bike.
Felt also makes women’s specific bikes, but their top bike has Shimano Ultegra and the other bits are not as good as the others. You could have one of their women’s frames built up with your choice of parts and wheels.
Depending on your body shape you would maybe be able to ride a man’s bike or should I say a non-woman’s specific bike. If this is possible you would have a bigger selection to choose from.
Start with the frame, must be carbon, and then your equipment will be one of the top groupsets from Shimano, Campagnolo or SRAM. There are lots of wheels around, alloy or carbon and depending on what you will be doing with them.
I hope this all helps Andrea?
