Todd G wants to know if he should store his bike in the garage or the basement? We give him our thoughts on-bike storage, but I’ve found that bikes like to be inside the house, normally in kitchens or dining rooms.
Question:
Greetings! I live in Western NY and am wondering if it is better to store my bike in the garage or in the basement? If in the basement, the only spot is next to the furnace. Any issues? Thanks!
Hi Todd.
Basically you don’t want a damp environment to store your bike in; this is not good for any metal parts, it is also not good for leather or material covered saddles, the handlebar tape, and the tires.
If you are going to leave the bike in the basement next to the furnace, make sure that it is not too hot, you don’t want to melt the tires or any other plastic parts. Are the garage and basement secure against a break-in? You don’t want it stolen either.
Bikes like to be in the house, they feel more part of the family, but this can cause problems with partners. This could be jealousy as you spend a lot of time with your bike and spend money on it. Find a position that the bike is happy with and it will last longer and serve you well.
